Speed limits are going down on the UCF campus, so watch that lead foot.

The UCF Police Department has announced that certain areas of campus will go from a 35 mph speed limit to a 30 mph speed limit beginning this week.

Areas that will see the change are the stretches of roadways on Gemini Boulevard near Greek Park and the CFE Arena and Orion Boulevard, near Bright House Networks Stadium, according to a release from the UCF PD.

This is all part of an initiative to increase access for golf carts on campus, said Courtney Gilmartin, UCF PD public information officer.

Because Florida statutes require a 30 mph or less speed limit for golf carts to legally and safely use the roadways, the university is making accommodations for these vehicles, Gilmartin said. Although golf carts are already operated on and around campus, they are not permitted on roads with higher speed limits.

Speed limit signs will be changed this week.

"UCF Police understand that there may be a period of adjustment for campus drivers, but know that we will enforce the new speed limits," the release states.
