Burger & Beer Joint near UCF closes after only 9 months
Only nine months after its opening in May, Burger & Beer Joint on University Boulevard closed its doors.
Despite its success in South Florida, the garage-themed eatery located only a mile away from UCF couldn't find the secret ingredient to reeling in the college crowd.
"This concept is not for this area," said kitchen manager McKinley Cherisol. "We didn't get enough students here, and this area is just mostly for the college."
Customers arrived at Burger & Beer Joint on Thursday to find locked doors and signs that read: "Dear valued customers, The UCF location will be relocating very soon. For any and all updates please visit our website at www.bnbjoint.com."
From the start, the restaurant, which specialized in rock 'n' roll-themed burgers and adult milkshakes, knew appealing to students would be a challenge.
In a previous interview with the Central Florida Future, Robert Fonseca, director of operations at Burger & Beer Joint, said the location was working on lowering prices and implementing specials to make patrons' dining experience both tasty and affordable.
Cherisol said the location is considering moving to the downtown area, but nothing is set in stone.
The University Boulevard location was previously occupied by Culpepper's, named for former UCF and NFL quarterback Daunte Culpepper who helped put UCF on the college football map. The UCF-themed restaurant run by Culpepper, former UCF quarterback Kyle Israel and radio host Tony Comas, closed after only six months.
