OCSO arrests man charged with robbing UCF-area Del Taco, Subway
Fresh off an 11-year prison sentence in Tennessee, 31-year-old Alvin Slaughter was arrested by Orange County Sheriff's deputies in connection with recent armed robberies near UCF.
On Feb. 15, deputies suspect Slaughter entered the Subway at 3912 N. Alafaya Trail at 7:21 p.m. and ordered a drink. Then the man pulled out a handgun and ordered the clerk to give him the money inside the register, as well as his own, said OCSO public information officer Lourdes Clayton.
Without any of his own money to hand over, the clerk, who is a UCF student, emptied the register's contents, said OCSO Lt. Paul Hopkins. The suspect then fled on foot.
On Feb. 23, Slaughter allegedly approached the drive-thru at the Del Taco located at 12025 Collegiate Way and pulled a gun and demanded cash.
Slaughter was booked into Orange County Jail on charges of robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, grand theft, battery and resisting merchandise recovery.
His 11-year sentence in Tennessee stems from an aggravated robbery. Slaughter is not a UCF student, however the UCF Police Department sent an email to students Thursday reminding them of the importance of reporting suspicious activity.
"Witness statements played a critical role in his arrest. Bystanders described what he did, what he looked like and how he fled the scene. Those details help police solve cases," the email on behalf of UCF Police Chief Richard Beary states.
"Please never underestimate the importance of reporting crime or suspicious activity. If you see something, say something. When we see or hear something, we reach out to you via UCF Alert. We've done this a lot recently," the email states. "Our intention isn't to cause alarm. We want you to be aware of anything that could have a significant impact to campus operations or to your safety and the welfare of other Knights."
