UCF's Alpha Delta Pi hosted its annual philanthropy event Cheers for Charity on Thursday at the UCF Venue to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Out of the several organizations within the Greek community that participated in the cheerleading competition, Kappa Delta won first place for both its performance and most money raised.

The sorority raised $2,000 to support the charity, and Kappa Delta sister Tara Janego said it was actually very simple.

By informing the rest of her sisters on how Ronald McDonald House Charities helps children and families going through challenging medical crises, Janego said the girls were instantly eager to get involved.

"We have been waiting all year for this, and have been practicing hard for the past few months in preparation for the event," she said. "We love being able to support ADPi and Ronald McDonald House Charities."

The event allowed for each participating organization to perform a short routine, which included various stunts, tumbling, cheerleading and dancing.

Kappa Delta performed a two-minute and 30-second routine that incorporated new ideas from performances in previous competitions.

"It's so crazy to think about the amount of time and effort we put into this short two-minute, 30-second routine over the past two and a half months," said Janego, a senior communication sciences and disorders major.

Despite the laughs, tears and late-night practices, Janego said the best part of the experience was the new friendships the sisters made, and the old ones that were strengthened.
