UCF's Sigma Nu to host its annual Undie Classic Friday
If you see people running through UCF's campus half naked on Friday at 4 p.m., don't be alarmed.
UCF's Sigma Nu Fraternity will host its sixth annual Undie Classic philanthropy event to collect clothes for Goodwill Industries of Central Florida.
This event, sponsored by Victoria's Secret PINK at UCF, will be a 1.5-mile run starting at Lake Claire, down Greek Park, around the Reflecting Pond, down the breezeway, through the Student Union, down Memory Mall and back to Lake Claire.
While wearing just their "undies," participants will be able to add a bit of a twist to their run while encountering multiple stations — including the spirit station, water station, misting station, crowd support station and even a techno station.
There will also be free food and a live band at the event to encourage runners as they sport their undies around campus.
"The purpose of the event is to provide a twist on a traditional clothing drive," said Josh Kolbert, the co-philanthropy chair for Sigma Nu. "We wanted to offer a fun and encouraging way for students to donate to Goodwill Industries of Central Florida."
This event is different from most other philanthropic events as it is not looking to raise money, but collect donated clothes.
Kolbert, a senior accounting major, said the goal is to encourage participants to bring a small garbage bag of clothes to collect more than 1,600 pounds of clothes — the amount that was collected last year from more than 80 participants.
Goodwill will take the clothing donations and process them through its many locations. Kolbert said the profits will provide vocational training to those in local communities, classrooms for at-risk youth and supply jobs to those in need.
