SGA president Weston Bayes passes gavel to Cait Zona
As the school year comes to an end, a new beginning takes hold for the UCF student body.
Former SGA president Weston Bayes and vice president Sydney Altfield transfered their positions to the newly elected Cait Zona and Jarell Jones at Friday night's passing of the gavel ceremony.
At the ceremony, SGA Senate members shared warm testimonials about their former leaders, and awards and recognition for notable members and agencies were presented before the event culminated in the official tradition of passing the gavel on to the new leadership.
Members of the three branches of SGA gathered with directors from different departments on campus, including Student Development and Enrollment Services, the Office of Student Involvement and the UCF Police Department.
UCF President John C. Hitt was one of the first to speak at the event. Hitt acknowledged Bayes' accomplishments, saying he "represented admirably" the student body, and expressed encouragement for Zona.
Zona will be the first Panhellenic woman to serve as student body president. She won the election April 1 against her opponents with 63.74 percent of more than 7,000 total votes.
