A list of recommended academic programs to relocate to UCF's Downtown Campus has been proposed.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dale Whittaker announced the news Friday on the UCF downtown website that the proposal has been sent to the UCF Downtown Leadership Team, which will review and vote on approval of these programs by mid-May.

The list includes programs such as School of Visual Arts and Design, Nicholson School of Communication, School of Public Administration, School of Social Work, Department of Health Management and Informatics, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Department of Criminal Justice and Department of Legal Studies.

"Many of these programs will build on the strengths and successes of UCF's existing digital media hub at our Center for Emerging Media in Downtown Orlando, including the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy," Whittaker said in the newsletter. "Other programs will help address community health and public affairs needs, while providing our students with valuable real-world experience."

Programs not proposed for the move will be further explored for possible enhanced opportunities on the main campus. As for when these programs will relocate to the downtown campus, that is based of funding, which has yet to be decided for the next year.

The list of programs was assembled with the help of the UCF Downtown Academic Programs Committee, Valencia College and UCF faculty from more than 30 academic programs, according to the newsletter.

The UCF Downtown Leadership Team includes UCF President John C. Hitt, Valencia College President Sandy Shugart, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins and Florida Sen. Andy Gardiner.
