Mary Lou Sole has been appointed as the new dean of the College of Nursing.
After a nation-wide search, Sole was named dean after committing 24 years to the college.
Prior to her new position, Sole joined UCF as a visiting associate professor for the School of Nursing at both the Orlando and Cocoa campuses, according to a release.
Since then, she has served as the graduate program coordinator and in 2013, she became the interim dean for the College of Nursing.
According to the release, as the interim dean, she progressed the college's teaching and research-related capabilities in simulation, virtual-reality applications, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Currently, her research on preventing complications for patients depending on mechanical ventilation has been funded by a $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.
Outside of UCF, she holds the appointment as a clinical scientist in the Center for Nursing Research at Orlando Health and she is a certified care clinical nurse specialist.
Sole will start her position on July 1.
