UCF alumna and Miss Florida World America winner Kailyn Perez placed in the top 12 of the Miss World America pageant over the July 4 weekend. Perez was the winner of the pageant's People's Choice.
During the judges' interview, Perez placed in the top 11. During the media interview, she placed in the top 10. She also was among the top 10 in the evening gown section of the event.
Perez left the pageant with a positive attitude saying, "The best part of the entire experience was leaving with friends from every state in the country."
Perez said she plans to start law school at Stetson University in the fall and looks forward to new ventures.
"I don't know what the future holds," Perez said. "I always take it one day at a time."
The pageant was held in Washington, D.C., in the University of the District of Columbia's auditorium.
The winner of the Miss World America pageant is Victoria Mendoza of Arizona.
