A man was left paralyzed from the waist down after jumping from a third-floor balcony at The Edge apartment complex near UCF early Sunday morning, Orange County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

OCSO responded to the call at 3:10 a.m., and Lt. Paul Hopkins said a witness observed the 20-year-old man unsuccessfully jump to a nearby tree from the balcony.

The man, whose name is not known and is not a UCF student, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center to be treated for paralysis. The Criminal Investigation Department has been notified.

"The victim had no recollection of the incident," Hopkins said.
