UCF to hold rally in support of diversity, inclusivity
UCF will be holding its first Rally for Respect Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. at the Reflecting Pond.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is spearheading the event in collaboration with other departments on campus, including Multicultural Academic Support Services. President Hitt will speak at the event along with other university and student representatives.
"The idea of the Rally for Respect developed out of a desire to bring faculty, staff and students together to raise awareness of and support for inclusion of all members of our campus community," said UCF Chief Diversity Officer Karen Morrison. "Ultimately we want to raise awareness of the need for civility and fairness in how we treat one another. ... Even we disagree strongly with each other or lack understanding of each other’s experiences in life, if we can treat each other with respect, we have an opportunity to learn from each other and build a community with less divisiveness."
The rally will precede a weeklong series of events and campaigns for UCF's Diversity Week from Oct. 12 to Oct. 16.
