The John C. Hitt Library will have an unarmed security guard during its operating hours starting next semester, said SGA Speaker of the Senate Meghan Kircher during a Senate meeting Thursday.

Kircher said that the library is working with the UCF Police Department to "ensure safety and well being of all students" with this change. During the meeting, Senator Hamilton Ervin asked why the security guard will be unarmed. Kircher said for now, library staff just wanted the officer to be present as a reassuring resource.
