UCF’s Theta Chi fraternity held its second annual Θxmas event Wednesday night to benefit Knight-Thon and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Eleven sororities competed to see which could best “deck the halls” of the fraternity house. Pi Beta Phi won first place, Alpha Delta Pi came in second and Alpha Epsilon Phi took home third.

Each sorority got the opportunity to “Rent a Brother” for the evening to help set up decorations.

“It’s a good way to get the brothers involved in the event,” said Shane Levine, Theta Chi’s philanthropy chair. “The guys have being loving it — it’s their chance to talk to girls.”

This year, almost $4,000 was raised at the Θxmas event, a $1,000 increase from last year’s total. The event was sponsored by Five Hour Energy and Order Up.

“I love fundraising for such a great cause,” said AJ Rodriguez, the fraternity’s special events chair. “The event is great; just going around talking to different people and seeing everyone enjoying themselves.”

The Θxmas event has also gained more attention in the Greek community after its creation last year, where eight sororities competed.

“It’s really fun and festive,” said Kirsten Etre, a Delta Zeta sister. “I didn’t come last year, so I’m glad I’m here now.”

Jenna Rogers, a Knight-Thon Miracle Child who has benefited from the care at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, attended the event with her family to see the holiday festivities and thank the Greek community for supporting the Children’s Miracle Network.

“Without the Children’s Miracle Network, Jenna wouldn’t be alive,” said Kristi, Jenna’s mother. “When you guys stand at Knight-Thon, you stand for her.”

Jenna was excited to spend time with the students who participate with her in Knight-Thon every year.

“This event gives them an inside look on who they’re helping,” Jenna said. “Without them actually seeing the kids they’re helping, they don’t know how important what they’re doing really is.”
