A shooting occurred at The Marquee, formerly Sterling Central apartments, on Alafaya Trail near UCF on Thursday night.
The Orange Country Sheriff's Office watch commander said that a white male was shot by a black male in the apartment complex. Marquee management posted to Facebook saying the incident occurred in a complex parking garage.
According to an alert sent out by the UCF Police Department, UCF PD officers were across the street for a traffic stop at the time of the shooting and were able to provide "life-saving aid" to the victim, who was then transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was not a student and is currently in stable condition.
OCSO deputies arrived on the scene to investigate after the shooting was reported at 11:22 p.m., and blocked entrances and exits in the complex. UCF PD does not believe there to be an imminent threat to the UCF community, according to the alert.
The Marquee released a statement on Facebook addressing the incident the following day stating that staff members have been onsite since soon after the incident and are cooperating with law enforcement authorities in their investigation.
"Our residents’ well being is our top concern," it said.
This is an ongoing investigation. Check back for updates.
