The Florida Board of Governors will hear revised plans for UCF's downtown campus on March 2, including a request for $20 million in state funding.
Orlando location yet to be decided, university leaders will present plans for a new academic building for relocated academic programs, including those in digital media, communication, public service and health-related programs. President John C. Hitt postponed UCF's last Board of Governors presentation in November in order to provide a more comprehensive report.
Additionally, on Monday, the Orlando City Council will vote to approve a memorandum of understanding that includes about $68 million in land and infrastructure improvements to the location site. These commitments, along with a commitment from Creative Village developer, total more than $75 million.
Last year, UCF stopped short of receiving $15 million for the project from the state in June when Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the full amount. The Board of Governors had previously approved $2.8 million for a joint-use, primarily administrative, facility for both Valencia and UCF in February.
Totaling $60 million, the downtown campus will be paid in three parts: $20 million from the state, university funds and private donations. So far, $9 million has been donated. Last month, the CFE Federal Credit Union and the Orlando Magic pledged $1.5 million each. Board members and university leaders have also made personal contributions, totaling more than $1 million. Additionally, Valencia College will contribute $2 million, and Orange County commissioners voted unanimously to contribute $3 million.
Pending approval, the campus is set to open in fall 2018.
