The UCF Police Department is cracking down on drunk driving this Memorial Day holiday.

UCFPD will team up with agencies from across Central Florida this Friday for a DUI detail that is meant to eliminate drunk driving. The DUI detail will be countywide and will run from 8 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. The main focus is to eliminate drunk driving in Orange County and to target impaired drivers.

Drivers who are found to be under the influence will be arrested and transported to jail. Drivers who are younger than 21 and are under the influence will be subject to license suspension, even if their blood alcohol level isn't over the legal limit.

This effort will be led by two UCF police officers who will participate in the detail. This is a multi-jurisdictional effort led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Community Traffic Safety Team.

Drivers who are suspected of being under the influence will be pulled over by the police as part of the detail and asked to complete a roadside sobriety test.

To help students avoid drunk driving this Memorial Day weekend, AAA and Budweiser have partnered to create the “Tow to Go” service designed to be used when people have no other options to get home. AAA will tow impaired drivers' cars and give them a ride home for no charge this Memorial Day weekend only.
