UCF Athletics can continue to charge on as its plans for the Wayne Densch Center for Student-Athlete Leadership have officially been approved.

The State University System of Florida Board of Governors gave the green light Thursday, and construction is set to begin in early 2015.

This center will be home to the signature programs, which will ultimately define the UCF Athletics brand, said Todd Stansbury, director of Athletics, in a letter to Knights supporters.

The areas of focus of the center will include academic support, leadership development, professional development, community service and lifetime learning for varsity Knights.

Some of the signature programs associated with these areas of focus will include the Leadership Institute for Student-Athletes, Knights Without Borders, the Junior Achievement Partnership and Professional Pipeline programs for medicine, professional sales, wealth management, law enforcement and entrepreneurship.

The programs are being developed in consultation with the industry and campus partners, Stansbury said, to ensure that student-athletes develop the skills necessary to compete and lead in the fields of their choice.

"The programming associated with the Wayne Densch Center for Student-Athlete Leadership is designed to create 'market-ready' graduates who are prepared for the most competitive postgraduate opportunities," Stansbury said.

There will be a groundbreaking ceremony later this month.
