The American Volleyball Coaches Association has released the schools that earned the Team Academic Award for excellence in the classroom, which requires a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.

After putting up a 3.36 team GPA in 2014-15, according to a press release, the UCF volleyball team earned the honor for the second consecutive year and fifth time since head coach Todd Dagenais joined the team in 2008.

“In all of the years that we’ve earned this award, this year’s is extra special,” Dagenais said in the release. “This was the first time that we met our goal of not only winning a championship in the classroom, but on the court as well.”

Spanning from high school to collegiate volleyball, 752 teams from 11 different levels of play earned the honor, including five from the American Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Halle Scott and freshman Jordan Pingel were the two lone Knights who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the season, according to the release.

“We are already recognizing the pursuit of academic excellence among the new players,” Dagenais said in the release. “You take great pride in being one of those teams that is trying to set the bar for the academic department. It’s great that we’re surrounded by teams that appreciate the value of academics. It’s healthy peer pressure for all of the sports in the department.”

The volleyball team will host the Holiday Inn Orlando East UCF Area Invitational on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29. They will play three matches in the opening weekend, facing Northern Colorado, Delaware and Southern Illinois.
