The American Athletic Conference awarded three out of four Player of the Week honors to UCF women’s soccer players on Monday.
Senior Ashley Spivey received the award for offense, sophomore Saga Fredriksson for defense and freshman Jessica Taylor for a rookie. Each was honored with the first AAC Player of the Week award of their career.
Each player’s contribution was instrumental in wins against FIU on Friday and Miami on Sunday.
Taylor scored her first career goal as a Knight in the 26th minute against Miami on her first shot in black and gold.
Fredriksson played a vital role in shutting out FIU’s offense in the 1-0 win. Adding to her defensive game, she assisted UCF’s first goal against Miami.
Spivey, who has been a huge offensive source for the Knights with 13 shots in four games, scored a game-winning goal in each of the weekend’s matchups, including the game-winner in the Knights’ 4-3 double-overtime thriller against the Hurricanes.
Riding a three game winning streak and early conference recognition, the Knights will take a trip to Oxford, Mississippi, on Sept. 4 to finish a three-game road trip against Ole Miss. They are currently 3-1 after losing the first game of the season to Florida, 2-0.
