Danny White, who currently serves as the director of athletics for the University at Buffalo, has been named UCF’s director of athletics on Wednesday and UCF will hold a press conference Thursday at 10:45 a.m. to introduce White as the new AD, according to a press release.
“I am excited to join the UCF family, and my goals include building on our outstanding academic accomplishments and making UCF a national leader known for competitive excellence,” White said in a press release. “We will become one of the nation’s premier destinations for coaches and student-athletes, and we will excite our student body, staff and faculty, alumni and the Central Florida community.”
White has been with the Bulls since May 8, 2012 and led the university to three Mid-American Conference titles last season. He is the son of Duke’s AD, Kevin, and brother of Florida Gators head basketball coach, Michael, and the United States Military Academy at West Point’s associate athletics director for development, Brian.
White, 36, earned a bachelor’s in business administration from Notre Dame, a master’s in business administration and sports administration from Ohio University and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Mississippi.
Before taking the helm of the Bulls’ athletics program, White was the senior associate athletics director at Mississippi from 2009-12, associate athletics director for development at California State University, Fresno, from 2007-09 and assistant athletics director for development at Northern Illinois University from 2006-07.
“Danny is one of the nation’s rising stars in college athletics, and his talent, determination, energy, and creativity will guide our program to a bright future,” UCF President John C. Hitt said in a press release. “He understands that success starts with winning with integrity and student-athletes thriving in the classroom, and he has a history of hiring successful coaches.”
He will take over a position that has seen three different people hold the role within the past six months. Former AD Todd Stansbury left UCF for Oregon State in June, former head football coach George O’Leary held the position for about four months and Brad Stricklin, who is the current interim AD, has held the position for just over one month.
White will assist in the search for UCF’s new head football coach.
