Former UCF wide receiver J.J Worton signed with the New England Patriots on Monday, according to NFL.com.
Worton is currently working out with the Patriots practice squad, hoping to work his way onto the field for New England’s playoff run, according to Mike Reiss, a reporter for ESPN.
This signing comes after Worton’s contract with the St. Louis Rams expired. Worton signed his contract with the Rams on Dec. 11.
The Patriots were one of the handful of teams that were originally interested in Worton after the doctors cleared him following his serious knee injury in 2014.
Worton will look to help the depleted and struggling Patriots receiving corps. The team’s leading wide receiver Julian Edelman has been out with a foot injury since Week 10, yet still leads the wide reciever group in yards with 692 and touchdowns with 7. To add insult to injury, the Patriots ranked second in the NFL in dropped passes with 32.
The defending Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, look to begin their title defense at home against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, Jan. 16.
