The UCF Knights pushed their winning streak to six after routing La Salle 9-0 Friday night in mercy rule fashion.

Pitchers, Junior Manami Calixto and Senior Mackenzie Huhn threw a combined two-hit shutout while being cushioned with an explosive display of offensive power.

“We always talk about coming out and making a statement to start games,” assistant coach Horace Smith said.

The Knights put the leadoff hitter on base in every inning of work Friday night and got things going when junior outfielder Linnea Goodman drew a walk, stole second base and then proceeded to cross home after an error in the field.

In the second inning, freshman infielder Cassady Brewer led the inning off with a walk and stole her first base of her career before being driven in with a single by redshirt junior Jasmine Acevedo.

Brittany Solis came through with a two-RBI single to right field later in the game to pile on top of the dominating batting performance.

“We know that our hitters have the ability to do something big for this program. Our defense does work as well as our pitchers. With all that combined, we’re unstoppable,” senior designated player and catcher Jessica Ujvari said.

Ujvari clinched the game with a three-run blast over the left-center field fence and ended the game with four RBIs.

This was definitely one of the teams we needed to beat, and we came out wanting to beat them,” Goodman said. “We did not let them have a chance to come out and win. It definitely boosted our confidence up.”

The Knights hope to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they play another double-header taking on South Dakota at 6:00 p.m. and LIU Brooklyn at 8:00 p.m.
