Senior center Justin McBride has decided to move on from the UCF basketball team.
Confirmed on Tuesday by Athletics Director Danny White at the UCF Charge On tour stop held in Downtown Orlando, the news comes shortly after sophomore guard Adonys Henriquez received his official release from the team, who transferred to play at St. Louis.
"I always encourage kids to make decisions that is in their best interest …" White told media Tuesday evening. "Typical with the coaching transition that we’d have some transfers — unless you hire the same exact type of coach, [you] shouldn’t be surprised."
New UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins, who replaced former coach Donnie Jones, will be faced with yet another hole to fill in his rotation before the start of the season, and McBride’s 6-foot-10 325-pound presence in the low post leaves a new position of need for the Knights.
McBride averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, shooting 60 percent from the field. In January, he was awarded an American Athletic Conference honor, averaging 12 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
