The Knights' softball season came to a bitter end Sunday in the regional final where the Gators delivered an 8-0 defeat.

With UCF unable to score in the five-inning matchup, the University of Florida secured six runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Knights ended their season 38-22 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

"It's going to be a tough challenge any time you go into a matchup against Florida," said head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie in a press release. “Going against a team that's ranked No. 1 in the country and has won back-to-back World Series Titles, you have be careful in how you handle them. I thought we prepared well and came in with a great deal of confidence. I thought our pitchers did well and we made some plays on defense. Although the score didn't show it, I thought we really battled well today and I'm really proud of this team."

In 2016, the Knights won 15 consecutive games from Feb. 26 to March 12, and senior pitcher Shelby Turnier was selected as the No. 11 overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch Draft by the Chicago Bandits.
