Nykesha Sales, an eight-time WNBA All-Star, will join UCF's women's basketball team as the assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.
“I am very excited to be a part of the UCF Knights family,” Sales said in a press release. “This position is an amazing opportunity to help build, encourage and empower our talented team. I want to thank Coach Abe for leading me here and I look forward to the success ahead.”
Sales played for the Orlando Miracle, now known as the Connecticut Sun, from 1999 to 2007. During WNBA off seasons, Sales spent her time playing basketball in Europe. In 1997, Sales played on Team USA at the Women's World University Games, during which she earned a gold medal and left as that team's top scorer, with an average of 18.3 ppg. Sales finished her basketball career with 1,157 rebounds, 683 assists and 490 steals, and is still the reigning lead scorer for the Connecticut Suns, with an average of 13.3 ppg.

She will be a huge asset to our program,” women's basketball head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson said in a press release. “Nykesha is a winner and a proven champion in every aspect of her life. Clearly, her resume speaks volumes in terms of her basketball career. Nykesha will be a great teacher of the game, and her experience will add to the skill development of our players, especially the wings and small forwards. Her personality and ability to relate and connect with people will definitely be a positive addition to our program with recruiting top notch players around the country and internationally.”
Sales graduated from UConn in 2008 with a degree in business management. Sales was also an ambassador and guest coach for the U.S. Sports Envoy Program and NBA Basketball Without Borders from 2009-15, where she aimed to create positive social change through community outreach programs.
