UCF is off to a running start this year, landing in ESPN's top 25 power rankings.

Named No. 23 on the list, UCF was grouped with powerhouses such as Florida State, Notre Dame and its former Fiesta Bowl rival, Baylor. UCF beat out both Texas and TCU on the list.

The list was compiled by a panel of 13 ESPN voters including reporters, analysts and television personalities from the company. The committee used a combination of the teams' individual Football Power Indexes, ESPN stats and expert opinions. Additionally, the teams' chances of winning each scheduled game were factored into an algorithm along with the statistics that determined the standings.

"Football Power Index predicts and ranks team strength based on expected points added from offense, defense and special teams, adjusted for opponent strength," the ESPN website states.
