Wednesday evening the UCF Arena was packed with students and alumni who share one common interest: a passion for UCF athletics.

The University of Central Florida may have solidified its football future Wednesday morning with what is probably its best signing class ever. There are 23 new additions to the Knights, five of which were enrolled by the beginning of the spring semester.

Everyone was invited to join in on the celebration — there were prizes, free food, and the opportunity for students to sign their own personal National Letters of Intent to solidify their commitment to the Knights.

They also received a treat from the Jammin’ Knights, who played prior to the event, and the chance to participate in a silent auction for a number of UCF prizes, including items such as a basketball autographed by the entire 2010 men’s basketball team.

After the crowd was treated, they slowly made their way into the Arena, where the first introduction to the new Knights awaited them.

Head coach George O’Leary and his staff spoke about the impact of the recruiting class and shared their expectations for the coming season and wowed the crowd with a number of highlight reels, showcasing the new fresh talent.

After each big play the crowd applauded and cheered with the anticipation of good things to come.

Following putting the new recruits on display, Coach O’Leary summed the entire class up with one short breath.

“The key is not about the number [of recruits], but the quality. We addressed almost all areas we needed to,” he said.

The coaches’ excitement was shared with alumni and students alike.

Lindsey Gale, a 2007 graduate with a Bachelor’s in English, is especially excited about the handful of players from Miami Central H.S.

“They will bring good camaraderie. I think they will live up to the hype and bring us back to a bowl,” she said.

Jerry Breese, a senior aerospace engineering major, is equally excited about the new batch of Knights.

“This class really trumps any class in years past. I think we can build a pipeline to Miami Central,” he said.
