Brett Hodges finished with 145 yards passing and Rob Calabrese threw for two touchdown passes in relief as UCF (4-3) defeated Rice 49-7 in Houston on Saturday afternoon.
The win marked the 50th road victory for the Knights in school history and put them back into the conference title race sitting at 2-2 in C-USA play.
UCF eventually got out to the 42-0 lead after freshman quarterback Josh Robinson returned a Rice interception for a touchdown and Calabrese connected with Jamar Newsome in the end zone for a touchdown.
After a Rice score, the Knights answered back in the final minutes with a touchdown pass from Calabrese to Ricky Kay to finish off the game for UCF.
The Knights compiled 465 yards of total offense in the game despite not holding the edge in time of possession.
UCF scored on it's opening possession of the game against Rice, a 74-yard touchdown pass from Hodges to A.J. Guyton, and they never looked back, eventually taking a 28-0 lead into the half.
Guyton was the star of the first half, catching four passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also registered a passing touchdown on a trick play to Kamar Aike for the 36-yard TD late in the second quarter to give UCF the 28-0 lead.
After the Knights took the 7-0 lead to start off the game, Hodges took the Knights down the field on 14-play, 86-yard drive to give UCF the 14-0 lead. Hodges went 7-for-10 for 130 yards and a touchdown in the first half.
