Former student appears on dating show aired on Fox

As he ascended the elevator, Davin Homan, a 26-year-old Clearwater native, did not know what to expect as he joined what would be 30 beautiful women on a new reality dating show called Take Me Out, hosted by George Lopez on Fox. Homan, who is a UCF alumnus of 2008 with a degree in marketing, recently appeared on the July 5 episode.

Homan went down to the open casting call in South Florida, where he currently resides, with not the slightest intention of really wanting to appear on television. He went there just being his genuine self. To his surprise, the video he sent to the producers caught their eye, and they arranged a day trip to New York to meet with Homan.

Homan recalls during his day trip that within 10 minutes, he had them with a “shock value” by his fresh style, nice smile, the way he carried himself and the way he presented his confidence, which the producers also saw because he was asked to be flown to do a taping for the show.

On Take Me Out, a variety of men are presented to a select cast of 30 women. The men have four rounds to impress them with the hope that after the fourth round, he can choose one of them to take out on a date. The ladies control a button that buzzes them out after they are turned off and no longer think the man is someone they would be compatible with.

Homan appeared on the fifth episode as the last out of four men. Every guy is allowed to pick a song to use as they enter the show. He picked “This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. The women right away could tell by his dance moves, laid-back personality and “swag” that Homan was different than the other men who have been on the show, which is why in the first round, based off of first impressions, not one woman buzzed him out.

“First of all, having 30 women look at you, smiling, made me [nervous],” Homan said. “They also all wanted to go on a date, so I just was trying to figure it out who I thought was most compatible.”

Homan went through the various rounds, trying to narrow it down to a few women. He then was left to narrow the few down to two young women, where he asked them one question to determine which one he would pick.

“If you were to write a song about the two of us, what would it be?” he asked, saying that music is a big component and passion in his life.

“I look for girls that are honest and ambitious — those are the two key qualities,” Homan said. “I do not necessarily have a check list, but I’ve dated enough girls to know what I don’t like, just like I’ve had enough jobs to know what I’m not going [to] do in life.”

He also hoped that 22-year-old Kasia Gregorczyk, a California State University, Fullerton graduate with a degree in broadcast journalism, felt the same when he picked her.

“My reaction to getting picked was just that I was really excited to be picked and going on a date,” Gregorczyk said. “I was curious about Davin and wanted to get to know him a little better.”

As part of the show, the two then went on a date where they drove out to a vineyard in Temecula, Calif., called the Leonesse Cellar.

Both Homan and Gregorczyk felt sparks on their date, especially with all the commonalities they shared as they found out more about each other.

“I think we have similar outgoing personalities, and I had a great time with him,” Gregorczyk said. “A turn on for me was his drive and success in his professional life and his fun attitude and dance moves.”

Both she and Homan agreed to keep in contact, but they both have very hectic lives and distance between them, which makes it hard to maintain a relationship at the moment.

Michael Skokos, a 29-year-old UCF alumnus with a finance degree, is Homan’s good friend. Skokos lives in Daytona Beach and owns 509 Nightclub and Lounge, a partner of Knight Library. Homan used to manage Scoop in Orlando, which is where the pair became acquainted with each other.

“I thought it was pretty awesome when he initially came up on the elevator, none of the girls canceled him out on their first impression,” Skokos said. “Out of the whole season, there [were] like 40 guys. There was only one other guy and Davin that that happened to.”

His current roommate and long-time friend Gabe Gonzalez, a 24-year-old UCF alumnus with a degree in business administration, is like a little brother to Homan. Gonzalez wasn’t surprised to see him on TV.
