Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming recently opened a location in Waterford Lakes to healthily treat and pamper dogs in the UCF area.

There are about 60 independently owned stores — about 20 in Orlando — with each location offering gourmet dog treats, healthy pet food, pet supplies, accessories and pet grooming, according to Woof Gang's website.

Dog owners in the area who wish to take their furry friends to a place that provides personal attention, love and care can look no further than Waterford Lakes.

"I try to provide a really safe and friendly environment for the dogs; trying not to make it almost like a factory set-up, like you would see in other places. We personally try to be a cage-free environment to make the dogs feel safe," said Chris Urgiles, the general manager at Woof Gang.

Coming from the local grooming school with a background of working at several different training and mobile facilities for pets, Uigiles said he appreciates his job because he is able to help any customer with questions, recommendations and education when it comes to animals.

Because February is Pet Dental Awareness Month, Woof Gang is going to offer special deals and discounts for its customers.

A doggie dentist will come in to use natural dental care on the dogs, a groomer will perform a free teeth cleaning and a wide range of products will be sold for teeth care, from brushes to water additives.

Although all stores provide the same high-quality services and products for pets, each Woof Gang location makes its own homemade doggie treats with an oven that is placed right in the store.

Most treats consist of rolled oats — which is a peanut butter base — flaxseed, honey and molasses, said Rachelle Howard, an associate at Woof Gang. Carob is used instead of chocolate, and yogurt is used as icing for the treats.

"I would say it's like a toy store for dogs," Howard said.

When the dogs come in, they are welcomed with free treats as the staff is eager to make the animals feel at home.

Mandi Rattee, another associate at the store, said she thinks Woof Gang is like an upscale bakery with moderate prices.

"What's unique about coming into Woof Gang is that you're going to get really personalized services," Rattee said.

Not only can the dogs benefit from the bakery and grooming salon, but owners are encouraged to be educated to understand what their dogs really need.

"A big thing that we try to do here is client education; try to teach people about different foods, ingredients that can be in the food and the sourcing of all the different products," Urgiles said.

He said when it comes to all of the products in the store, the staff stands by everything 100 percent.

If there is a purchased item that a dog dislikes or doesn't eat, the customer is able to return it and get a full refund. The item can either be replaced or exchanged, and everything that gets returned goes to a donation charity that gives out dog food to those who can't afford it.

Urgiles said he and his staff try their best to treat the pets as if they were their own.

"We really want everyone to feel like they're family when they come in," he said.
