For many, the start of December signals a rapidly approaching holiday season, and while some can’t wait for the festivities to arrive, UCF choirs led by faculty from the School of Performing Arts will commence the celebration with a free concert at St. James Cathedral on Dec. 3.

“Songs in Waiting,” which will be performed by three UCF choirs and individual vocalists and musicians, plans to pay homage to the “season of longing, expectation, intention and promise,” said UCF’s Director of Choral Activities David Brunner, who will be leading the choirs with faculty member Kelly Miller.

“There is a huge variety of styles on the program, including a couple new works of mine,” Brunner said.

The University Chorus, the Women’s Chorus and the Chamber Singers will be the three main UCF performers in the show, which starts at 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Orlando.

Brunner said “Songs in Waiting” will particularly celebrate the Advent period, showcasing sacred and secular works with a common theme of possibility, anticipation and hope.
