After being open for a little over a month, the new sports bar Caddyshanks has made its mark in the UCF community. The sports bar opened on June 1 and offers a unique experience to UCF students.

Chris Poulos, owner and operator of the franchise, says that there are several factors that make Caddyshanks stand out.

“We are a true interactive sports pub,” Poulos said. “Our philosophy is that you can just sit and watch games, or you can play games. This gives people the option to play games and interact with each other.”

There are numerous ways that patrons can get moving. Caddyshanks offers high-quality virtual reality experiences to guests using Oculus Rift, a VR headset. They also offer standard activities like pool and arcade games.

“We are the only sports bar with virtual reality in the United States,” Poulos said.

Everything about Caddyshanks is interactive — even the kitchen.

“We have a virtual kitchen,” Paulos said. “We use the existing restaurants in Plaza as our source of food.”

Customers at Caddyshanks are given a menu with options from various Plaza restaurants, including Bento Cafe, BurgerFi and more. If they place an order, a Caddyshanks employee picks it up and delivers it to them. The only items that Caddyshanks sells directly are the beer and wine options.

According to the Caddyshanks website, it currently offers over 150 bottles and drafts of beer and also has an extensive wine selection. Non-alcoholic beverages are also sold.

“It’s like an extension of dining room. We do it because it keeps the customers here,” Poulos said.

Poulos said he chose to open his second location in Florida in the Plaza on University because the area was very desirable.

“We had an opportunity to be in Plaza,” he said. “It was a place where we could execute the prototype that we wanted to do.”

He wanted Caddyshanks to become more well known on this side of Orlando, and said that “UCF is a very visible area.”

Emily Pleasant, a bartender and server at Caddyshanks, started working there when it opened on June 1.

“I love how laid back it is,” she said. “It’s a very nice and open environment and the customers are great.”
