Curious why the Burger King in the Student Union was replaced by two new restaurants?

Aramark, operator of UCF Dining Services, has been running the new Nathan's Famous and Arthur Treacher's that opened Aug. 18. The two replaced the Burger King Whopper Bar in the Student Union, which closed last spring.

Aramark also managed the Whopper Bar, but after researching UCF's current food options, the company felt that hot dogs and seafood would add more diversity to the campus food scene.

"There is a lot of research that goes into the whole process," said Johnny Addison, Aramark's spokesman and regional graphic designer, in an email.

He added that traffic, student composition and existing restaurant locations were some elements that motivated the decision to bring the fast-food chains to the Union.

"We researched the current UCF food landscape and felt that opening a Nathan's Famous/Arthur Treacher's filled a segment that hadn't yet been highlighted," Addison said.
