Global UCF construction underway, hinders parking
Construction for the new Global UCF building is underway, and students should take note that it is obstructing a great portion of Lot D1 behind the Health & Public Affairs building.
The three-story, 50,000-square-foot building will serve as the new hub for the Global UCF program, featuring study areas, classrooms and administration offices. Construction is not anticipated to finish until January 2016.
The building will be across from Memory Mall and the Towers Residence Halls, which house many of the international students enrolled in the program.
The Global UCF program aims to help prepare international students with academic, language and cultural skills to fully experience UCF. Last fall, 30 international students were enrolled in the Global UCF program, but UCF spokeswoman Zenaida Gonzalez Kotala said the university is aiming to recruit more.
Eventually, the university hopes Global UCF will attract an excess of 1,000 students annually, Gonzalez Kotala said in a previous interview with the Central Florida Future. This would enhance cultural exchanges on campus and generate much needed revenue.
