In the wake of a suspension from hosting events that serve alcohol, a former brother of Sigma Nu is under investigation by the State Attorney's Office for allegations of sexual misconduct.

Rodrigo Mendoza was suspended from the fraternity for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at the organization's off-campus house.

The morning of Oct. 3, the victim awoke at the Sigma Nu fraternity house "completely nude and in a lot of pain and very sore," according to a report from the UCF Police Department. The victim discovered an open condom wrapper and condom on the ground. The victim said that she did not know what happened.

The UCF chapter had previously been suspended from all alcohol-related events by the national office on June 16.

"During a fraternity investigation of the UCF chapter into possible violations of Sigma Nu policies regarding alcohol, our office learned of the sexual assault allegations contained in the UCF police report," said Brad Beacham, executive director of Sigma Nu Fraternity. "We are deeply troubled by the allegations and immediately suspended the accused student, pending further developments."

This is an ongoing investigation, during which the Sigma Nu national office plans to assist state investigators as requested, said Sigma Nu's Director of Risk Reduction Fred Dobry.

In addition to suspension from the fraternity, UCF's Office of Student Conduct also took action against Mendoza by requiring him to write a two to three page letter reflecting on a jail tour and competing 100 hours of community service in addition to other requirements.

"UCF PD filed at-large charges and turned the case over to the State Attorney's Office in April," said UCF spokeswoman Courtney Gilmartin. "UCF PD conducted a criminal investigation [and] we're awaiting possible charges from the state. When a victim of any crime reports to UCF, we are dedicated to helping them move forward in whichever way they decide is best for them."
