Friendly Confines in Waterford Lakes closes
The Chicago Cubs-themed Friendly Confines sports bar and restaurant in Waterford Lakes closed its doors on Monday.
The sports bar, named after the nickname for the Chicago Wrigley Field baseball park, was known for its wings, nachos and pre-game appetizers, and was located next to Charley's Philly Subs and Moe's Southwest Grill. The website states that the restaurant first opened 15 years ago in Waterford.
"The owners got a really good offer ... the owners of Downtown PourHouse bought it and they are going to turn it into a pub called Social House. The owner of Friendly Confines is going to have a hand in it," said Sam Akel, general manager of the Winter Park location.
Along with its location in Winter Park on Aloma Avenue, Friendly Confines currently has two other locations in South Orlando on Orange Avenue and in Lake Mary on State Road 46A.
Akel said the business is looking to start franchising and is planning to open two new stores in the next year and a half.
The size of the Waterford location was less than the "franchise package" requirements of having between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet of space, he said.
