Based on data from USA Today, America has experienced at least 25 school shootings since 1999, and mourned the deaths of a total of 127 victims.

The most recent shooting occurred at Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Thursday. The suspect, 28-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, was killed in a police shootout after fatally shooting 10 victims.

In March 2013, an active shooter targeted residents of the UCF campus residence hall Tower 1. James Oliver Seevakumaran, a 30-year-old business student, hid a rifle, 1000 rounds of ammunition and four homemade bombs in his dorm for a planned killing spree he attempted to carry out March 18, 2013. When his rifle jammed, Seevakurmaran took his own life. It was later found that he had been receiving weapons and communicating with a convicted killer through the mail. A manifesto of the plot, ending “give them hell,” was also found.
