UCF Tau Kappa Epsilon will be taking its Knighthood to the next level at its jousting philanthropy event on Sunday.

The fraternity is set to host its second annual Joust for Jude event at Lake Claire from noon to 3 p.m. to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The grassy recreational area will be filled with participants ready to duel it out while raising money for this cause. While the event is free, there is a suggested donation for food and for the all-so-popular Pie-a-Teke, when a fraternity brother will get "pied" in the face by an eager guest.

Robert Taylor, TKE's vice president, said the fraternity has already raised more than $2,000 through individual fundraising — and the official event hasn't even happened yet.

Last year, the fraternity raised that amount after all the events, including the jousting tournament, was finished. Taylor said he is expecting a higher total after Sunday.

"The main thing is the joust ring, which is a one-on-one competition in an inflatable joust ring, and teams of three go up one-by-one and fight somebody on the other team," said Taylor, a junior radio-television major.

He said the event gained support from about 300 participants last year, but with the Lake Claire area being a bigger space than the TKE house off campus, more participants are expected to attend.

The fraternity already held a Pie-a-Teke on Monday at the Student Union, but it's including it in the Joust for Jude festivities because of its success. TKE also held two partial proceeds this week — one at Chick-fil-A on University Boulevard and the other at Blake Pizza in the Plaza on University shopping center. The funds from those events will go toward the total amount raised for St. Jude's after the Joust for Jude event is over.

Interested parties can donate to the fraternity's cause here: Taylor said the official amount raised is higher than the website lists due to other individual fundraising that's been done.
