Wrong-way driver in fatal 408 crash attended UCF
Troopers responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on SR 408 near UCF on Wednesday night, a Florida Highway Patrol official said.
Around 10:40 p.m. between the Rouse Road and Alafaya Trail exits, a vehicle traveling the wrong way collided head on with a motorcycle, said FHP Sgt. Kim Montes in an email. The victim, who has been identified as 28-year-old Christopher Tague, was transported to Florida Hospital East, where he was pronounced dead. He was driving a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle and was wearing his helmet.
Driving a 2004 four-door Mazda, the driver has been identified as 27-year-old Daouda Tanon, a former UCF student. He attended UCF from fall 2012 to summer 2013, university spokesman Gene Kruckemyer said. The Casselberry resident was not injured, and investigators are looking into whether alcohol was involved.
Tanon was reportedly driving eastbound in the westbound lanes on 408 "for an unknown reason," according to a release, when he crashed into Tague, ejecting him from his motorcycle.
FHP is handling the investigations and charges are pending.
