SGA announces Bill Nye to visit UCF

From Mentos and soda experiments to learning about the solar system, Bill Nye the Science Guy has always been there for us, and he will be at UCF on March 15. Student tickets are now being distributed at the Student Union ticket center.

UCF student involved in fatal accident

Just after midnight on Feb. 28, UCF student Josie Moore-Boatwright was involved in an accident on Tanner Road that resulted in a fatality.Moore-Boatwright, 23, was making a U-turn in her 2013 Ford Mustang at the entrance of East Lake Elementary when motorcyclist Dale Williams, 29, struck the right side of her vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

UCF organization works to destigmatize mental health among minorities

The Multicultural Student Center at UCF held an event on Feb. 17 that aimed to tackle negative stigmas associated with mental illness, especially those faced by minorities.

UCFPD looks to hire new dispatch staff

The UCF Police Department announced March 1 that it will begin accepting applications for dispatcher positions today.

Applications will be accepted for two weeks. UCFPD hopes to hire two new dispatchers, according to the press release.

Dr. Phillips Charities gifts $3 million to Downtown UCF

The contribution will go toward the construction of the campus’ $60 million academic services building, a 165,000-square-foot facility which, together with the renovated Center for Emerging Media, will house around 7,700 students. Of this funding, $20 million will come from UCF, $20 million from the state and $20 million from private donors.

2nd class-action lawsuit filed versus UCF for data hack

Another class-action lawsuit has been filed against UCF for the data hack, this time for negligence. UCF alumnus Jeremiah Hughley filed the lawsuit against UCF on Feb . 25. Hughley alleged that his bank account was compromised as a result of the data breach.

Universal Knights venue changed to Universal Studios

On March 1, the student government association at UCF announced that this year’s Universal Knights will take place at Universal Studios instead of the usual Islands of Adventure. Students will have access to all of Universal Studios, including the Harry Potter expansion and the Gringotts ride. Universal Knights will be held on April 17, and students will be allowed in the park from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Donald Trump to visit UCF

Republican candidate Donald Trump will be hosting a rally at UCF on March 5. The rally will start at two, with doors opening at 11 a.m. Tickets are available on Donald Trump’s website. The presidential hopeful won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia on Super Tuesday. Two peaceful protests, to be held outside the CFE Arena, have already cropped up on social media.
