Winning 12 of 13 games and a tournament in Hawaii are just a couple of accomplishments that the UCF softball team has notched in the first three weeks of the season.
After achieving its first national ranking in program history a week ago, the Knights climbed to No. 15 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll. The team is coming off a successful weekend in Hawaii where it went 4-1, including a win against then-No. 16 Washington — UCF's third victory this season against a ranked team in 2015.
The Knights traveled to Gainesville to face Florida on Wednesday, and the results were not available at the time of publication.
UCF has received consistently dominant performances from pitchers Mackenzie Audas — the reigning American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week — and Shelby Turnier. The two have combined to sweep the conference's Pitcher of the Week award all season.
The duo has a collective .56 ERA and has struckout 128 batters in just 83 innings.
"Our dynamic duo of Shelby and Mackenzie are just lights out," UCF head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said in a release. "They'll take us far this year because of their capabilities for strikeouts and shutouts."
UCF returns home to play host to the Wilson/DeMarini Tournament this weekend, which features Princeton, Iowa, LIU Brooklyn and FAMU.
