Current students may not remember Lena Petermann, who appeared in 20 games for the UCF women's soccer team in 2013, but she has been named to Germany's 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup roster.

Petermann was a standout freshman for the team, recording eight goals and 20 points on her way to becoming the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and receiving All-Conference First Team honors in 2013.

She is perhaps best known in her home country of Germany.

Petermann decided to leave UCF in the fall of 2014 after she tallied the game-winning goal eight minutes into extra time in the FIFA U20 World Cup title game to defeat Nigeria, 1-0, and give Germany the gold – her third game-winner of the tournament.

The Ottendorf native signed a professional contract with SC Freiburg of the Frauen Bundesliga in Germany.

Germany will be in Group B during the 2015 World Cup, which is hosted by Canada. It will open up round-robin play against Ivory Coast on June 7 in Ottawa. It will close the first round against Norway on June 11 and Thailand on June 15.
