The 2016 Knights continued their perfect season as they used a strikeout filled pitching performance from right-handed pitcher Cre Finfrock to fan their way to a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night at Whataburgur Field.
Improving to a record of 6-0, the Knights led offensively by junior infielders Brennan Bozeman and Ryan Crile, batted their way to victory with multi-hit performances and two-RBI singles that came in the fourth inning against the Islanders.
“We like to call it the juice in the dugout,” Bozeman said in a UCF Athletics press release. “Once we get some guys on, our dugout starts getting excited and creating energy. It just piles up and we keep using the momentum to create big innings.”
Scoring all runs in the fourth inning, the Knights gave Finfrock enough cushion to go seven innings, giving up three hits and only one run, walking one batter.
”Today, I really worked on my off-speed pitches,” Frinfrock said in a UCF Athletics press release After giving up that one-out home run, I settled in after that and pounded the zone and let my defense do the work behind me.”
Claiming his first win of the season, the Knights will take on Texas State to try and continue their perfect 2016 campaign as they fight further on in the Kleberg Bank College Classic.
”We are finding ways,” head coach Terry Rooney said in a UCF Athletics press release. “At the end of the day, you are not going to score double digits every game. Particularly on Friday night, where everyone is throwing their best guy. You have to play smart, be aggressive and take advantage of what is given to you.”
